Students from the Diploma in Nursing Extension and Diploma in Midwifery Extension programmes recently presented their proposed research topics as part of the academic requirements for their studies at Mukono Diocese School of Nursing and Midwifery Sciences.

In total, 28 students submitted and presented 81 research topics, drawing on issues drawn directly from clinical practice and community health experience. The topics reflect the breadth of challenges facing health workers and patients today, from maternal and newborn care to infection prevention, chronic disease management, mental health, and the growing role of digital health tools in patient care.

Each presentation covered the student’s proposed research title, the problem the study seeks to address, and the specific objectives guiding the research. Topics were reviewed for clarity, relevance, and feasibility, allowing students to refine their thinking and receive guidance before proceeding to the next stage of their research journey.

The exercise forms an important part of each student’s academic and professional development, encouraging evidence-based thinking and equipping future nurses and midwives with the research skills needed to improve healthcare delivery within their communities.
